Preparative Chromatography Supercritical Fluid 80

Preparative chromatography, as opposed to analytical chromatography, is used to isolate specific quantities of a particular substance contained in a mixture. The basic difference between the two techniques is that the mixture is not merely monitored or analyzed but the individual solutes of interest are actually isolated, collected and recovered for further use. Preparative chromatography is not necessarily involved with large samples, or large columns (although very large columns are often used in preparative chromatography) it is, however, always associated with component isolation and collection.

Preparative Supercritical Fluid Chromatography 80 is an automated system that features co–solvent gradient, high pressure separators for quantitative recovery of purified products, such as enantiomers (the #1 application), complex synthetic chemicals and natural products. Prep Supercritical Fluid Chromatography 80 system is designed for chiral and achiral separations. It is optimized for separations 50 grams or less, and can be configured with up to 12 fraction collectors.

In today´s world, new demands are constantly putting pressure on laboratories to become more innovative. Finding ways to increase throughput and sample purity, or to decrease turnaround time and sample loss are becoming crucial for companies to succeed in such a competitive market. There are several inherent issues with delivering samples to prep chromatographs. For example, throughput is affected by having to wash out sample pumps and change sample loops when switching between projects. In addition to the aforementioned, these tasks also play a large role in cross contamination, which in turn affects product purity. Furthermore, dead volume in sample pumps will contribute to wasting valuable sample.

With the addition of the new ´Injection Module´ to Thar’s product line, all of these issues are no longer a concern. The new injection module allows users to program variable injection volumes (without having to change loops), with the option of achieving 0% sample loss. Programmable wash cycles allow for easy changeover in cGMP environments. The end result is less wasted time and money, with an increase in product purity. The Injection Module is compatible with all of Thar´s Prep SFC systems.

CO2 Recycling

The theory behind recycling is to collect the CO2 that is vaporized after the automated back pressure regulator and as it’s vented from all of the cyclones of the system. This CO2 is then fed back into the inlet of the system in an effort to conserve resources by reducing the need for additional CO2 from a fresh supply. The solvent in the system is separated from this recycled CO2 (before it gets to the recycling vessel) by the fraction collectors (during collection) and from the waste cyclone.
